British Rowing has recently published a series of articles on coaching as a part of Coaching Week, 4-10 June. They asked me to pen some thoughts about “Empowering” with coaching drawing on my experience working with the adaptive rowing programme – “Coaching Week series: empowering the athletes”. I discussed the subject with the squad and they shared lots of great perspectives and a few juicy quotes:
“I have the chance to push myself to my limits in a sport and that’s something that I never thought I’d be able to do.” – Kingsley Ijomah, PR1
I talked about three aspects…
- Leadership – Caring over craft.
- Community – Strength in numbers.
- Flexibility – There’s a reason it’s called “adaptive” rowing.
“Adaptive rowing makes me feel limitless rather than limited.” – Ella Holloway, PR3
