The UK organization for all disabled sport in the UK, Parasport, features showcases one club month doing great things with inclusivity and enablement and this past month selected Stratford Upon Avon rowing club. Anyone active in the adaptive rowing community will know SUA and their leader, Mark Dewdney, who is also the chair of the UK Club Adaptive Group. SUA has grown from a pair of athletes and a single boat to a dozen strong squad and a fleet of a half-dozen adaptive boats. Mark and the club have been staunch advocates of pushing the boundaries of inclusivity as he describes on the vide:
- · “Our standard approach has been that if it is safe, if we can do it, we will have a go with anybody.”
The result is warmly expressed by one of the interview athletes:
- · “I felt a freedom that I hadn’t felt for such a long time.”
SUA’s honor is a reminder for all Adaptive/Pararowing club to get themselves listed on Parasports fine searchable database of accessible clubs and activities (as only about a half dozen are at the moment).
