PR1 African Training Camp

18 Feb

One way to escape the confines of winter indoor training is to seek refuge in warmer climes. Some clubs organise training camps in the more southern latitudes of Spain or Italy, but Marlow’s Kingsley Ijomah has gone all the way to Tunisia. Not just to get more water time, but to take part in the Africa Pararowing Camp for PR1 athletes. He was joined by pararowers from South Africa, Tunisia, and his femal teammate from Nigeria. While the days were sunnier and the water warmer, the conditions were challenging in different ways. The winds over the expansive training lake meant for some choppy waters (see video) throughout the week. Maybe the British-like breezes windy weather made Kingsley feel right at home giving him the advantage he needed to take home gold in the end of the week challenge racing (see above). Nigeria is looking to be the African powerhouse in pararowing as his teammate Mary also won silver in her race.
