A first report for the Runcorn Rowing Club Autumn Head which has added adaptive competition. Head racing has traditionally been quite limited for adaptive racers. Only 3 of the 32 UK adaptive events are head races. The long distance is hard for some adaptive athletes to cover and the format of the racing makes it difficult to provide safety cover. Also, the north of England has had fewer opportunities for competing as also only 3 of the 32 UK competitions are north of Nottingham. So Runcorn’s event was a doubly rare treat.
Congrats to the competitors who all achieved great results:
- Sean Bailey (RRC): Open AR3 PD sets fastest 3650m course record (floats on the water / square blades)
- Andy Morris (SUA) Open AR3 PD: sets Fastest 3650m course record (no floats / feather blades)
- Mike Hopley (RRC): Open AR3 PD: beats 1000m personal best
- Mark Pattie (RRC): Open AR3 PD: beats 1000m Personal best
