I wrote a previous post about “Erg Monorail Clamps” that were very simple and effective devices for turning an erg into a fixed seat for PR2 rowers (or other rowers who might want to row fixed seat). We also used to help coach individuals to not come up the slide too far such that they were over compressing as the clamp could be placed at the front where you wanted them to stop. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has stopped making them. So I turned to our always helpful local metal worker, Meakes, who was able to fashion a reasonable facsimile for us. The new version is made of heavier steel (as opposed to the lightweight aluminium of the original) and uses simple bolts (instead of the handy handles for tightening), but it works, it is modestly priced (about £40) and (most of all) it is available.
