After years of COVID and high waters, Marlow Spring Regatta finally returned in full spring glory with sunshine and a full day of fine competition.
With the Phyllis Court Time Trial providing a solid basis for the initial time handicaps, the racing was quite competitive. The system is not perfect as a number of competitors hadn’t made it to PCTT, some of the new rowers are on a steep improvement which means they provide a moving target of times, and conditions simply change to favour different rowers. But, a lot of these competitors will be coming to the big adaptive event of “The Season” at this same venue, Marlow TOWN Regatta, and these results will inform an even more competitive draw for then. And the timing database isn’t just to assign racing handicaps, but also to help set up the races with as closely matched races as possible leading to over half of the events being Even starts.
