City of Oxford Regatta is always a highlight of the adaptive rowing calendar and this year’s bonus of generous boating support by neighbouring Falcon RC made the event smoother and easier than ever for the adaptive squads.
By this point in the regatta season, the Midlands/Thames clubs have a good measure of athlete boat speeds, but the popularity of the Support Adaptive 2x format keeps the variability high as support rowers regularly change. As a result, knowing the boat speed of a particular entry can be difficult even if that adaptive athlete has raced a double multiple times this season. Nonetheless, all of the competitions seemed fair, reasonable and competitive. Even the odd mismatch or skewed time handicap was forgiven in the upbeat spirit of the sunny day and great racing. And some races came right down to the wire to the excitement of the crowd and competitors.
Congratulations to the winners…
